Next Tiny House Build is Underway! (and Valentine's Day specials, mastering 24 hours??, another ash basket beauty!)
Happy Winter Day to You!
Are you welcoming winter’s return? We are. It is the season of soups, fires in the woodstove, planning…and now building. For those of you not in northern Michigan, we just came out of many days with above freezing temps, which meant rain instead of the sweet white fluffy stuff.
Yesterday, we began construction on The Journey, our next tiny house on wheels. This means for the time being that basket making is hold for Jon. If all goes well, basket making will resume in June and perhaps some will be available at the Frankfort Farmers’ Market this summer.
The Journey tiny house is 8 by 18ft. The floor frame is nearly complete and it’s exciting to see it take shape! The design is finalized, the siding is on its way, windows are here, local basswood and local ash for the interior arrive within the month. It’s all coming together! I’m going to be posting updates on the build to our brand new facebook and instagram accounts so join us there! The Journey and the final decisions about this tiny house can be yours! Contact us for ownership opportunities.
Starting to build again reminds me to keep close at heart the reasons we are doing this. It’s surely not to test our patience at having windows and insulation in our living room, a flooring nailer in the bedroom, and house wrap in the bathroom…but then again, it is. This is life. Read the following this week and it hit home:
“All of us are apprentices to the same teacher that all masters have worked with-reality. Reality says: Master the twenty-four hours. Do it well without self-pity…Repetition and ritual and their good results come in many forms: changing the car filters, wiping noses, going to meetings, sitting in meditation, picking up around the house, washing dishes, checking the dipstick. Don’t let yourself think that one or more of these distracts you from the serious pursuits. Such a round of chores is not a set of difficulties to escape so that we may do our practice that will put us on the path. It IS our path.”
This is my path. I’m seeing some of my habits more clearly and that is humbling. I long to be a better listener, more compassionate, share more, talk less…and eat less sugar. I long to accept the 24 hours and the chores that need doing day after day.
Off to make soup…

P.S. Want to join us in this journey? We are offering a few special ways to do so…
We thank you for your interest and for joining us so far on this journey! We look forward to sharing more with you as it continues!
The latest ash splint basket. For those of you who didn't read about these in the last newsletter, the basket is made from hand pounding an ash tree to get the growth rings to separate. It's a beautiful process! This basket contains old wool sweaters, one of which I made into an awesome oven mitt with the help of talented friends.
