Yup, we survived!
Good day to you!
Before I go into too much, let me start with an apology. After I sent our last email newsletter, I realized that I didn’t like the subject line. It was too harsh. My hope is to share some joy, bring some harmony into the world. And I don’t think that did the trick so, for that, I apologize.
Our latest tiny house build is complete and she’s a beauty. She looks good and that is important…but she also feels good and that’s more important. She feels good because of all the love and attention she received and because she is made up of lots of goodness.
Our cabinets are faced with local maple wood that rested, preserved, under Lake Arcadia, for hundreds of years.
Inside the walls, is the wool from sheep.
Zero-VOC finishes grace all the walls, trim, cabinets, countertops, and floor.
That is all the sweet news. The ‘sour’ news is that the space is so sweet we wanted it to be our home! Sitting in it together, we felt a sense of joy and accomplishment. We also learned a lot, knowing to yet another level, the true work is on the inside and that the truly wise give us the search for worldly pleasures. There were many times when we lost track of what we are really trying to do and got caught up in reactions, stress, anger, frustration. “One who hopes for ultimate peace, gives us the search for worldly desires”-not quoted exactly but gives the essence of words of Webu Sayadaw, a Buddhist monk, best known for giving all importance to practicing rather than intellectual pursuits.
Part of this journey is caring for our bodies. What fresh food are you eating? This afternoon, we had cucumbers, basil pesto (veggies from our neighbor’s farm) with a farmers cheese I barely remembered how to make with goat milk from friends. (A simple farmers cheese is so easy! If you haven’t tried it-please do! Just bring the milk slowly to a boil, stirring often to prevent burning. Then add a good amount of vinegar or lemon juice and pour through a cheese cloth-I never have proper cheesecloth so just use a clean cloth or I cut off a piece of a t-shirt that is in bad shape. Let it hang for a while and viola! Cheese! Flavor with herbs and salt and enjoy!).
Do you shop at your local farmers’ market? Such a beautiful time to do so! You can support awesome producers following their heart and get more goodness for your gut. Anyone in NW Lower Michigan-come to Grow Benzie tomorrow for our Monday Farmers’ Market from 3-7pm. Until 5pm, our market will feature local fiber spinners demonstrating how to spin fiber into yarn and more!
Cold treats are so fine on hot days I have never made ice cream. I want to but am intimidated by the process. I do make a tasty icey dessert. Chill a can of full-fat coconut milk. Throw in some sweetened condensed coconut milk if you can. Put the milk and a few types of frozen berries (frozen raspberries, saskatoons, strawberries, blueberries), and some local maple syrup in your good blender and yummy, there it is!
Caring for our bodies and minds, so many different ways to do so. Often times, not easy. I wish you renewed inspiration to do what you know is best for you. Right now. Yes, now.
